Just mixed a Last Word using Luxardo Perla Dry instead of their standard Maraschino. The Perla’s higher ABV can’t be missed. At this point, the process of finding the Perla Dry is more compelling than this drink.

OK I give up. What the hell is Perla Dry? Never seen it, never heard of it.

What the hell is Perla Dry? I wish I could answer that. According to the Luxardo website, it’s a further aged version of the Maraschino liqueur that works well in truffles and pralines. Of course, the bottle shown on the website looks nothing like mine (sans the label). And the listed 70 Proof does not match my 80 Proof variety.
It didn’t work for me in the Last Word, where Maraschino comprises a full 25% of the volume. The lack of sweetness and higher ABV completely changed the drink. I’m guessing it would fly when used in drinks with smaller volumes of Maraschino, like the Aviation, however.
