There’s more to drinking than getting drunk.

Sure, drunkenness is a nice side effect.  And most of us started drinking strictly to attain that buzz.  At some point, however, you realize there’s more to it than pounding beers and slamming shots.  You acknowledge you actually enjoy the taste of alcohol and find yourself drifting away from cheap sugar-and-vodka concoctions toward complex and balanced cocktails of multiple taste dimensions.

That’s how it happened for me, anyway.

My personal transition from a keg-standing, shot-pounding lager lout to apprentice of mixology has been taking place slowly for about 8 years now.  It started with the Manhattan, moved to the Martini, and continues on through exotics like the Silver Dawn and classics such as the Sazerac.  The topic is so robust I’ve decided to document each step — every recipe, every drink, every establishment, and every city.  So here we go… Let’s Talk Some Booze.
